- PRESS RELEASE
The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) recently assisted a visit of 23 tour operators from UK and Australia.
DTCM Manager Missions, Hamad bin Mejren said that there were 13 tour operators from Australia and 10 from UK, all receiving up-to date information about the emirate. "By showing them what we have and what the emirate has in stored for future, we have motivated them to extensively promote the emirate in their region," said Mr. bin Mejren.
He notes that there are 110 UK tour operators promoting Dubai in their itinerary while 18 are from Australia. "The number of hotel establishment guests from Australia as well as UK has also registered a sharp increase. "There has been an increase of 55.02 per cent in Australian hotel establishment guests in 2002 compared to 2001. Similarly, UK hotel establishment guests have recorded an increase of 28.27 per cent in 2002 when compared to the previous year", detailed Mr. bin Mejren.
Mr. bin Mejren also briefed the tour operators about the works and achievements of the DTCM regionally as well as internationally. He also dwelt upon the emirate's latest infrastructure and services, which can be availed by visitors. "Assisting tour operators is one of the integral strategies of the department to promote Dubai's tourist sites and in turn boost the tourism of the emirate," he said.
A city tour was also arranged for the visiting tour operators, which gave them a broader picture of the emirate. "We arranged trips to shopping malls, hotels, beaches, desert sites and also showed them a film on Dubai which will help them to understand the history, traditions, heritage and modernisation of the emirate," added Mr. bin Mejren.
