She is among the 20 international health educators chosen this year to receive a grant from the GSMC-FAIMER Regional Institute in Mumbai, India, one of the five centres in the world.
Professor Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed, Dean of DMC, said:
"This milestone further establishes the UAE's commitment to leadership in medical education, in-line with the vision of our Founder Haj Saeed Lootah. DMC will continue to encourage our faculty members to pursue globally recognised programs towards achieving excellence."
Headquartered in Philadelphia, USA, FAIMER is considered the world's highest authority for medical educators. The institute seeks to create and enhance educational resources for those involved in teaching aspiring physicians, by developing strong professional bonds with other health educators from around the world.
FAIMER has developed a network of more than 300 international 'fellows' from over 34 countries and is growing by roughly 100 every year.
Dr. Fouzia Shersad thanked the college for its support and commented, "I am extremely honoured to be selected as a FAIMER fellow. This opportunity to interact and learn from the global community of medical educators will open new doors for sharing the knowledge with DMC students."
DMC has been developing progressive programs for students as well as faculty. The college has implemented the EFQM excellence model, making it the first medical college in the UAE to do so. It has also been awarded the 'Dubai Quality Award' for best practices in the medical curriculum delivery process.
