- PRESS RELEASE
Emirates General Petroleum Corporation 'Emarat', in its support to the initiative launched by the Headquarters of Dubai Police, has built a special centre for testing vehicles' tires for free.
Mr. Abdulla Hassan Al Noman, Manager, Retail Sales Operations at Emarat, praised this initiative which exalts the spirit of responsibility and care for travelers' safety, saying that many traffic accidents result from defects in the vehicles' tires.
He also applauded the new penalties law, which fines users of tires that are not qualified to be driven, in addition to impounding the vehicle for seven days. Mr. Al Noman said that this procedure will force drivers to watch out for the status of their tires continuously to make sure that they are safe, which will help them and other drivers to avoid accidents which can result from the explosion or malfunctioning of any of the tires.
Mr. Al Noman further clarified the main reasons which can cause the deterioration or explosion of the tires, include a 25% increase or decrease in the air pressure specified for the tire, 20% increase in the load specified for the tire which can decrease the life of the tire by 30%. In case the load was above the specified level, this may lead the tire to explode at any second, or in the least its exterior layer will be torn.
Other reasons include using the tire for speeds to which it was not designed, as such speeding may lead to an increase in the tire's temperature and can affect the tire's position. It was found that a tire's deterioration can be doubled if the speed is increased from 50 km per hr to 95 km per hr, taking into consideration the surrounding temperature.
Also, keeping the tires in damp locations, or in high temperature, sudden stops, and bumping the tires could damage them. When a tire is bumped into solid things, like the pavement for example, or a rock, it could be cut, which may result in its explosion.
