Bahrain to host major international conference on Islamic finance

Islamic finance and sustainable development in Muslim countries will be on top of the agenda at a major international conference, which will be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain from 21st to 23rd April 2003.

The Fifth International Conference on Islamic Economics and Finance will bring together regional and international bankers, financial professionals and government officials under one roof to discuss the problems of unemployment, internal and external debt in Muslim countries as well as in determining the causes of these problems, and in suggesting remedies in the light of Islamic teaching.

'This prestigious conference will only serve to strengthen and reinforce Bahrain's reputation as a regional financial hub and provide a much needed focus on issues related to Islamic finance,' said His Excellency the Minister of Finance, Government of Bahrain, Hassan Saif.

The International Association for Islamic Economics, Islamic Research and Training Institute (Islamic Development Bank), and the University of Bahrain are the organizers of this prestigious event that will be held in the Gulf Hotel.

'We are looking forward to hearing some of the top international and regional decision makers, researchers and government officials discuss new theories and case studies in this emerging field in the financial industry,' pointed out Dr Alawi Al Hashemi, head of the organizing committee.

Interested scholars are invited to submit abstracts and outlines of their papers, along with their curriculum vitae.
