A reflection of this commitment can be seen through its billing initiative which charged per second from the first second, and through a large number of innovative offers and packages that cater to the various needs of different segments of the Jordanian community, all of which received large acceptance and resulted in a rapid increase in Umniah's subscriber base, which grew to include 1 million subscribers in 2007.
Commenting on this accomplishment Mr. Ihab Hinnawi, Umniah's CEO, said:
"As a local Jordanian company we are extremely proud of this achievement which is a result of the dedication and hard work made by the qualified and experienced Umniah team, to whom we are extremely grateful. We view our attainment of this advanced position as a motive for us to move forward and continue with our existing strategy, which is based on providing a comprehensive group of services and innovative solutions for mobiles, internet, and business solutions combining between both quality of services and competitive prices in line with local and international changes in the telecom sector, which is one of the fastest growing sectors."
He added, "We are working diligently towards exceeding the expectations of our subscribers, especially youth whom represent the majority of the Jordanian population. We believe in the importance of constantly developing our network and the technology we use because of its direct impact on the level of services we offer and the satisfaction of our subscribers. We are proud to have reached this level of competence in such a short period of time and of our work which relies on a high level of international technology and a strong infrastructure, ensuring that the standard of solutions we offer satisfies the largest number of subscribers regardless of their needs."
Since entering into the Jordanian market in 2005, Umniah, a subsidiary of Batelco-Bahrain, has been able to enter into and compete in a highly competitive market; its comprehensive and diverse solutions have substantially contributed to increased penetration rates for both mobile phone and internet services in line with the directions and goals outlined in the National Strategy for the Telecom Industry.
