The global volume of E-waste will reach 73 million metric tons by 2015, according to the 'Electronics Recycling and E-waste Issues' report, although it is expected to decline from that point onwards in the coming years as an effect of recycling initiatives and practices levels in the rate of the production of electronic goods.

While electronic wastes continue to grow in the next six years, Netgear, a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking and storage products, has committed to use eco-friendly components for its products as part of its commitment to countering the ill effects of E-waste dumping. The company also announced that it would be taking significant steps to protect the health and safety of its employees, customers, and the environment.

In response to the rising clamour for environmental responsibility across the IT sector, Netgear conducts its operations in a responsible manner, and produces high quality networking and storage products that are environmentally sound. It offers products that promote energy conservation, including 'green switches' such as unmanaged desktop gigabit switches, unmanaged rack mount gigabit switches, and smart gigabit switches. Further, Netgear’s external power adapters, which convert household electricity to low-voltage DC power for many electronic devices, also have a dramatic impact on energy usage.

"Amidst positive projections that the volume of E-wastes will decline in the future, we remain committed to compliance with local laws and regulations in jurisdictions wherein we operate, and to directives for the recycle, reuse, or reclamation of our products and their packaging, for the next six years until the projected remission of E-waste volumes are truly realised,"

said Ahmad Zeidan, Channel Sales Manager, Netgear Middle East.

"As a result of our efforts, more than 15% of our customers have adopted our green solutions. This commitment continues to be a driving force for Netgear, and a principle that is deeply ingrained in our values."

Netgear has achieved 'Energy Star Level IV' efficiency for all its external power adapters, which helps reduce the amount of electricity its customers use. It is also an 'Energy Star Partner', working hand in hand with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to offer consumers energy-efficient choices that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company has also developed an aggressive plan to integrate its energy-saving initiatives to its broad portfolio of products available around the world.

Netgear offers affordable, easy-to-install networking, storage and security products, which merge reliability with high performance for the benefit of small and medium businesses. The company's solutions are backed by a lifetime warranty and 24/7 technical support, which ensures unhindered operation of the equipment and further helps assure end-users. Redington Gulf, Netgear's strategic distributor in the Middle East, has dedicated its well-networked CRM team towards communicating this message to customers, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction in the most transparent manner.

"We are witnessing a tremendous interest among regional organisations to adopt 'green' systems. As a matter of fact, we can estimate that up to 10 to 20% of their annual budgets are used to integrate 'green' products within their operations. We continue to develop new 'green' solutions within our portfolio, which will compliment the previous ones that we have launched, and the rest of our offerings," concluded Zeidan.
