He stressed:
"The EPC will ensure that we all abide by the federal laws and regulations. At the same time, it will also help us promote business opportunities and compete better within the local, regional and international markets."
El Omari's speech was quickly followed by a presentation from Engineer Yahya Ramadan Al Balushi, Senior Environmental Researcher - Ministry of Environment and Water, who opened with the clear message that all industrial sectors are required to comply with the Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW)-established EPC guidelines to ensure an environmentally sustainable future.
Through a monitoring program and regular environmental audits, the EPC will ensure that companies abide by Environmental Policy and relevant Federal requirements. MOEW with collaboration with the free zone will also conduct training with regard to various Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) issues available to RAK FTZ staff and clients.
He then outlined the requirements and process, which includes the submission of Environmental Permit and an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report, designed for industrial establishment's compliance with EPC guidelines, and will ensure sustainable business growth without adverse health effects in working and public environments.
In the seminar discussion lead by the RAK FTZ Engineering Department, they addressed the investor's benefits in complying with the EPC guidelines and stressed that the engineering department is committed to assist them as much as possible to reach their desired environmental goals, and to sustain HSE issues in the free zone.
The information was welcomed by the more than 40 industrial company managers who attended the event. They also expressed a keen interest to start the process of application for the EPC.
Recently awarded the 'Best Emerging Free Zone' for the third consecutive year by the Middle East Logistics Awards, RAK FTZ is committed to developing its infrastructure to serve its clients better while protecting the environment and carefully selecting projects that follow the same environment, health and safety standards as its own.
