Run by Dr. Leonie Jooste, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Accounting and Finance at the University of Wollongong in Dubai, the two-day workshop introduced the use of basic financial information in managing a business.
Attendees were given an understanding of information, such as the balance sheet, profit and loss account and cash flow statements and were guided through the management of business revenues, costs, profits and cash flow, as well as the use of this knowledge in making effective business decisions.
"We at Envent acknowledge that the development of Oman to a large extent hinges on the role played by women and that they therefore need to be provided with the required support to realise their full potential. We have already been assisting in their development through our Women In Business Conferences and this latest workshop is a continuation of our efforts to work with business women in Oman to provide them with the skills and knowledge they need through our conferences, seminars and workshops tailored specifically to meet a clearly defined set of requirements,"said Salma Al-Hashmi, Managing Director of Envent.
"Yesterday I arrived here with only a rudimentary knowledge of the financial aspects of running a business," said Al-Zaina Al Aghbari from Al- Zaina International. "Initially I was sceptical about attending, since I don't wish to become an accountant or face a barrage of incomprehensible financial jargon. Today I'm leaving empowered with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for developing financial competence. I now have the tools required to understand the numbers to enable me to make the right decisions. I'm glad I came."
Envent would like to thank the event sponsor, Swiss International Airlines, for their generous support of the workshop, Dr. Leonie Jooste for giving the attendees the benefit of her extensive knowledge and experience over the two days of the event, the attendees for providing such an interactive audience and the Golden Tulip Hotel for hosting the event.
