Dubai eGovernment visits Dubai Thalassemia Centre to raise awareness on blood disorder
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, July 27 - 2009 at 11:23
- PRESS RELEASE
Dubai eGovernment (DeG) recently visited the Dubai Thalassemia Centre, one of the leading medical institutions in the Middle East, to promote greater awareness on thalassemia and bring cheer to children suffering from the blood disorder.
The social call was part of DeG's efforts to bring happiness and involve the children at the Thalassemia in the DSS festival.
During the visit, attendees were given a detailed presentation on the Centre's history and development as well as its world-class medical services. Modhesh later made a guest appearance and had his picture taken with the children, who were also treated to a special face-painting session.
The youth were also given 'Colour and Win' brochures that qualified them for 'The Best Coloured Photo for Modhesh' raffle, which along with the 'Rehlati' contest on www.emodhesh.ae is one of several competitions included in the DSS program.
The activity reflects DeG's strong commitment to social and humanitarian causes and its pursuit of continuous dialogue with all segments of society, including children battling major illnesses such as thalassemia. DeG was eager to expose children with the blood disorder to the fun atmosphere of DSS, as the festival is a promotional phenomenon organised mainly for the youth. The initiative will be of great help in supporting government and private sector efforts in Dubai to raise public awareness on thalassemia, promote the importance of its prevention and early detection, and provide patients suffering from this disorder with the necessary psychological support to integrate them into society and enjoy a healthy and normal life.
Dubai Thalassemia Centre is the UAE's first dedicated centre for thalassemia patients. It has launched several successful awareness campaigns such as 'A Future Without Thalassemia... Be Screened To Be Safe.'
Dubai eGovernment is currently providing an electronic platform to Dubai Summer Surprises 2009 to enable the public to acquire daily updates on festival events and schedules. The Modhesh Friends Forum portal, one of the most popular attractions for children during DSS, is an ideal online platform for hosting various exciting activities in Arabic and English as well as competitions for children.
