AlHosn offers Summer 1 and Summer 2 classes, with two courses taught per major. Students are allowed to take both classes and thus finish a maximum of four courses. The University accommodated 170 enrolees for the 1 and 2 modules in the summer of 2006; the figure has risen to 45% for 2009. Universities typically offer only the Summer 1 module during vacation.
"Both students and parents stand to benefit from our summer-class scheme. Since their subjects are fewer, students can concentrate better. Of course, their main motivation is the reduction of their study load for the incoming school year. Parents have been commending us for allowing their children to invest their time wisely during the break. The steady increase in our summer enrolment through the years is proof of the success of our summer program,"
said Dr Hamdi Sheibani, Provost, AlHosn University.
Graduating students are given priority during the summer, although the University carefully studies the needs of the entire student body before preparing the courses. Enrolees attend two-hour classes for a month, following the same study loads given during regular classes. The classes may cover prerequisites for fall and spring courses.
AlHosn University's expanded summer classes are part of initiatives to enhance the academic and employment opportunities of its students. The Abu Dhabi-based institution offers 18 accredited undergraduate and graduate programs in three faculties, many of which involve engineering disciplines. Most of AlHosn's programs were developed by academicians from prestigious North American universities.
The City Campus of AlHosn comprises a Men's Campus, a Women's Campus, a Library Building, a Lectures Building, and an Engineering Labs Building, all located at the heart of Abu Dhabi. The University will soon construct a state-of-the-art main campus.
