  • PRESS RELEASE

Well-known the world over for its expertise with marine boilers, the Harris Pye Group is rapidly making a name for itself for the repair, refurbishment and installation of land based process, industrial and power plant boilers.

One of its most recent successes has been the erection of two substantial power boiler sets and associated equipment in Sharjah UAE, at the Green Dome Petro-Chemical Company Ammonia Plant.

The boiler sets which were of Indian manufacture and supplied by Green Dome, are designed to supply steam for power and the process requirements of the Green Dome plant in the Hamiriyah Free Zone in Sharjah.

Supplied in knock down form to facilitate shipping and handling, the boilers were an integral part of the project to construct and commission a new Anhydrous Ammonia plant. Both were rated at 67,500kg of steam per hour at a pressure of 42kg/cm2 and a superheat temperature of 375oC. The resulting product is mainly for export and is normally used in the manufacture of the fertilizer Ammonium Nitrate.

"We were delighted to win this important contract and are aware that there were a number of contributory factors. Although no ASME stamping was required, the fact that we are ASME accredited was certainly a key factor as a measure of our expertise, as was our reputation as one of the world's most highly recommended boiler repair company, our competitive quotation on both price and time, and our ability to undertake tasks other than straightforward boiler installation and discuss and resolve a range of challenges,"
explains Malcolm Jordan, Managing Director of Harris Pye Gulf LLC, the Group's Middle East operating company.

The contract encompassed setting of foundations for structure and boilers and the erection all component parts including structure walkways, ladders, platforms, roof and side cladding; the boiler structure; boiler drums; boiler water wall tubes and superheater; boiler feed pumps; boiler deaerators; forced draught (FD) fans including inlet ducting; chimneys and outlet ducting; economizers (and undertaking their assembly); LP dosing system; sample coolers; burners; all external inter-connecting pipe work including superheater piping, feed water piping, gas supply piping and steam piping. It also covered pressure testing of the entire boiler assembly and of all external inter-linking pipe work.

"To facilitate the whole procedure, we used technologies such as laser and thedolite alignment for confirming the correct set up of the boilers and associated civil works such as support plinths. This was a 'first' for us and well worth repeating on future land-based contracts. Additionally we were awarded contracts for the erection and testing of the demineralised water plant and the Ammonia compressor plant; and carrying out extensive repairs and remedial work to reformer coils. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the Green Dome Petro-Chemical Company over a 15-month period," explains Malcolm Jordan.
