Gulf Castle, which was delivered to GEM in March was the first ever Panamax built by HMD, and the remaining two vessels to be delivered for the year are of the same type.
"The delivery of Gulf Cobalt signifies GEM's commitment not just to growth but to a responsible business operation. The new Panamax's delivery represents GEM's resolve of achieving its targets for 2009 while strictly adhering to the highest standards of safety, reliability and environmental protection."
said Ahmed Al Falahi, CEO, GEM.
Just like the previous vessels delivered by HMD, Gulf Cobalt was built through the application and implementation of the same stringent design and outfitting requirements.
The ship delivery was taken at HMD's Ulsan shipyard by GEM's senior executives.
GEM's adherence to safety, quality and care for the environment has been acknowledged and recognized by the shipping fraternity through the three awards it received in 2008 alone. Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards awarded GEM in the Safety and Quality category, while Lloyd's Middle East Shipping Awards recognized GEM in the Clean Seas category, and bestowed the company with the Tanker Company of the Year award.
GEM is certified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance to the ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System and ISO 14001-2004 Environment Management System for the operational and technical management of its fleet.
