Alba Toastmasters, the first ever corporate Toastmasters club in Bahrain when it was founded in 2003, remains one of the most vital components of life at Alba and a key member among the family of Toastmasters clubs in Bahrain and the region. It offers opportunities for those seeking to hone their communication skills, actualise their potential and become assets in the community.
The newly installed executive committee will oversee the realisation of this goal through fortnightly meetings held at the Alba Club on Wednesdays. Members of the committee are S. Abbas Al Alawi - President; S. Hazem Al Alawi - Vice President (Education); Nabeel Jallabi - Vice President (Membership); Parijat Pande - Vice President (Public Relations); Yogesh Kumar - Secretary; Abbas Amrulla - Treasurer; Rajni Kant Verma - Sergeant-at-Arms; Khalil Khaji - Librarian; and, Mohd Mahmood - Chief Counsellor. The Master of Ceremonies for the event was Ghada Al Mawlani.
Outgoing President Mohamed Al Asfoor highlighted the various achievements of the previous year, which included the Young Leaders Programme (YLP) for summer students and Speech Craft for Alba employees. The new President S. Abbas Al Alawi reiterated his team's commitment to continuous improvement and to work towards achieving excellence at all levels.
The event also provided Alba Toastmasters to showcase some of the winners from last year. DTM Mohammed Abdulla Esa, YLP winner Mohammed Ahmed and the 1st Place Winner, District 79 Humorous Speech Contest, Mohammed Al Eissa delighted the audience with their speeches.
Alba Chief Executive, Ahmed Saleh Al Noaimi encouraged members of the Alba Toastmasters to continue with the good work that they have begun, and Alba COO Mohammed Mahmood reminded the incoming officers that duty and responsibility are the cues on which performance is measured.
"The main purpose of Alba Toastmasters is to inculcate the art of effective speaking, listening and thinking. But of course, it does more than that. It promotes skills that enhance leadership potential, strengthen self confidence, boost team-spirit and foster a better understanding of the world. These values go hand in hand with Alba's own goals of empowering its employees at every stage. Hence, Alba Toastmasters receives support from the highest level and is, today, one of the most active Toastmasters clubs on the island and has notched victories at the local, regional and international levels,"remarked Mr. Al-Noaimi.
"It has been involved in social work and has supported the Crown Prince's Youth Leadership Program and the InJaz Program. It has also been involved in mentoring initiatives that have resulted in the formation of eight more clubs. Its SpeechCraft programs have helped supervisors become effective communicators and thereby better able to inspire their staff," he added.
Alba has been consistently ranked as one of the largest aluminium smelters in the world and is known for its technological strength and innovative policies. It supports numerous community oriented programmes and social activities that have underlined its status as one of Bahrain's leading industrial organisations that remains fully committed to its corporate social responsibility.
