The launch was held under the patronage of H.E. Hosni Abu Ghaida, Chief Commissioner of ASEZA.

Director of the Princess Basma Development Center in Aqaba, Mrs. Fatima Al Hinnawi, explained that the initiative was launched based on a study that was conducted on the needs of families in Al Deesa. The agricultural unit will support, encourage and develop personal farms and agricultural projects to improve the conditions of families living in Al Deesa.

The unit will be implemented in three phases, which include awareness and guidance, providing families with necessary equipment, and the establishment of a Loans Fund. The first two phases were implemented upon signing a contract with ADC in the presence of Princess Basma bint Talal back in October 2008.

Eng. Imad Fakhoury, ADC's CEO stated "The establishment of this unit falls in line with His Majesty King Abdullah's vision to prioritize the importance of agriculture in our country."

He went on to say,

"This project aims at improving the living conditions of families in Al Deesa, providing them with the necessary equipment to develop their farms and improving the quality of their agricultural products, which are part of our commitment and responsibility towards our community. This project will contribute to creating many job opportunities and encourage families to establish independent projects to improve their standard of living and increase productivity in Al Deesa."

The first phase of the agricultural unit has already been completed. The unit will provide high quality equipment such as water pumps, seeds, water hoses, spraying tools, fertilizers and pesticides among other equipment. In addition, the unit will offer the required awareness and guidance for residents of the area.

To begin implementing the third phase, Fakhouri presented a check to Mrs. Al Hinawi, to improve the agricultural state of Al Deesa through funding small projects aimed at developing the agricultural sector as well as increasing productivity and the general quality of life of the residents.
