Airport International Group announces traffic performance for the first half of 2009

Airport International Group (AIG), the Jordanian company responsible for rehabilitation, expansion and operation of the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), has announced traffic performance for the first half of 2009.

The results show a remarkable increase in passenger and aircraft movement for the first half of the year.

QAIA handled 26,622 aircraft movement compared to 23,478 for the same period of last year with an increase of 13.39%

Passenger volume for the first six months of this year recorded an increase of 28,428 passengers passing through QAIA, representing a 1.4% growth over the first half of 2008.

Figures show that June 2009 was the highest month for passenger traffic over the period with 426,286 travelers, an increase of 5.28% compared to June last year.

Commenting on these encouraging results, Curtis Grad, Chief Executive Officer of Airport International Group, said:
"We have been working actively to attract new airlines to QAIA, as well as facilitating increased frequency of existing carriers serving QAIA, which has positively contributed to the traffic growth of the Airport. Mr. Grad also added that the Middle East region continues to experience positive growth, despite the worldwide economic crisis, and is positioned to lead the global recovery."


The rehabilitation and expansion works at QAIA are well underway with the new passenger terminal extending over 85,000 square meters. AIG, under the terms of a 25-year concession agreement with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is responsible for the operation of the airport, the rehabilitation of existing facilities and the construction of the new terminal.

AIG is a Jordanian company with private shareholding by Abu Dhabi Investment Company (UAE), Noor Financial Investment Company (Kuwait), Edgo Group (Jordan), Joannou & Paraskevaides (Overseas) Limited (Cyprus), J&P-Avax (Greece) and Aéroports de Paris Management (France).
