The program will witness the participation of 100 volunteers to be at designated locations on the Jeddah Corniche to encourage anti littering behavior, share updates about the campaign, give out the special Nazeeh & Wartan booklets and pins to the children at the designated areas.
As part of the Summer Festival 2009, Nazeeh & Wartan will promote their message of environmental preservation by holding competitions and hosting clean-up promotions in public areas and main streets. To strengthen the campaign's attraction for youth, Al Baik is sponsoring a Nazeeh & Wartan branded football tournament, which will feature raffle draws for attractive prizes.
"The Jeddah Summer Festival with its many outdoor and mall activities is the ideal platform for Nazeeh & Wartan to spread the word about the unsightly and unhealthy public nuisance of litter and we hope that their message creates greater awareness about care and concern for the environment in general. While the anti-littering campaign targets all members of society we are particularly keen to educate children to grow up to become responsible citizens of the Kingdom and for this reason we created Nazeeh & Wartan as contrasting role models. Over the years the two cartoon characters have become popular favourites with children and parents alike and have proved to be very effective in getting our social and environmental messages across to society,"
stated Eng. Rami Abu Ghazaleh, CEO of Al Baik Food Systems.
Al Baik restaurant outlets are also participating in the Nazeeh & Wartan campaign by distributing campaign booklets for children, who must then complete the "10 Ways To Be Responsible" to get giveaways and have their photographs taken for display in the restaurants until the end of the campaign when the photographs will be featured on banners to be displayed on the Corniche.
Included in the booklet are instructions on how to make a kite out of recyclable material and there will be a children's kite flying competition on the Corniche after which the winners will be given prizes based on their creativity and the highest flying kite.
In addition, the campaign will feature two weekends for a beach clean-up with the collaboration of divers clearing the seabed of trash polluting Jeddah's marine environment.
In previous years Al Baik included the Nazeeh & Wartan campaign as part of the "Clean Up the World" campaign, a global effort supported by the United Nations Environment Program with the participation of 40m volunteers from 120 countries and involving community groups, schools, government departments, enterprises and institutions and in a series of environmental activities and programs.
Enhancing its leadership role in the Kingdom's private sector, Al Baik serves the communities in which it operates through its policy of corporate social responsibility and is especially well regarded for its innovative educational programs which are designed as entertaining ways to further develop the minds and creativity of the sons and daughters of the Kingdom.
