Samena appoints Justin Connor as Strategic Advisor

Samena Telecommunications Council, the multi-continent telecom operators' consortium, announces the appointment of Mr. Justin Connor as the Strategic Regulatory Advisor to support, and coordinate the activities and efforts of its Regulatory Committee, comprised of telecom operators from South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

"We are extremely pleased with this appointment of Mr. Connor, a well-known and highly experienced legal and regulatory advisor and long-time member of our Board of Advisors and Regulatory Committee. He will have a crucial role to play within Samena and his key responsibilities will include the building of consensus across the key stakeholders of the Council and adding value to the work of Council members by coordinating the production of high-quality deliverables for membership," said Thomas Wilson, CEO and Executive Managing Director, Samena.

An American lawyer, Mr. Connor received his Juris Doctor in law from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts and was the Senior Attorney and the Middle East advisor at the U.S. Federal Communications Commission in Washington DC where he drafted orders, regulations and policies on telecom regulation, reviewed mergers, prepared Congressional testimony and advised on international trade/WTO matters.

Mr. Connor's experience includes serving as litigator at Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe in Washington DC, a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Beirut, Lebanon, where he taught law and advised policymakers on telecom reform and market liberalization, General Counsel to Meraas Capital in Dubai and Director of Legal and Regulatory affairs to the Emirates International Telecommunications, (EITL) - part of Dubai Holding.

"Additionally, Justin will also support the creation of regulatory content for the Samena website and the various industry conferences, summits and workshops organized by Samena in association with our members and different committees,"
added Thomas Wilson.

In February 2008, Justin was selected as one of the 'Top 20 Lawyers in the Gulf' by The Brief, a Dubai-based legal publication and named as 'Champion of the In-House Profession' for 2008 by the Dubai Corporate Counsel Group.
