The applications that will be assessed in the written assessment phase were also identified. As for ineligible teachers and principals, the Association dispatched formal letters to them informing them of their ineligibility with a description of the reasons behind their disqualification. Ineligible applications that were contested by applicants were studied and reviewed with the Ministry of Education in order to reevaluate their eligibility.
Commenting on the results of this year's eligibility phase, Ms. Lubna Touqan, Director of the Association of Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Excellence in Education, said:
"We are happy with the current level of understanding with regards to the Association's criteria for eligibility, which we were able to sense through the applications that we received. The number of eligible applications for the written assessment phase for the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Teachers amounted to 1298 from a total of 1509 applications, whilst the number was 269 out of a total of 348 for the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Principals covering all directorates in the Kingdom. We will continue to work as an Association and in partnership with the Ministry of Education towards decreasing the numbers of disqualified applications in the future."
Touqan also referred to the number of applications that were nominated by other members of the local community including students, parents, colleagues, relatives and others which amounted to 5045 for the Award for Distinguished Teacher and 3134 for the Award for Distinguished Principal. Furthermore, she noted that the number of teachers that were competing in the award again was 713, those who were nominated for the second time totaled to 441 teachers, those who were nominated for the third time totaled to 212 teachers, and those who were nominated for the fourth time amounted to 60 teachers. She said that these numbers were a proof of people's increased confidence in the Association and it's Awards.
She added, "We are looking forward to the next phase which brings us closer to unveiling and honoring examples of educational for both teachers and principals in Jordan according to the Association's criteria. The Association commenced with the written assessment phase for eligible applications under the Award for Distinguished Teachers on the 14th of June 2009 and with the written assessment phase for the Award for Distinguished Principals on the 5th of July 2009. On this occasion we would like to wish all eligible applicants the best of luck on their path to excellence, and to all those who were not eligible this year we would like to assure them that we believe that they have the qualities to be distinguished and we are confident that they will be eligible in future years with hard work and by meeting the criteria set forth by the Association."
