The Board position became available following Janet Legrand's election to Senior Partner, effective from 1 July 2009. The election to identify a new board member was held last month and Abdul Aziz was officially elected on 29 July.

As an Elected Member of the International LLP Board Abdul Aziz will represent the interests of the wider partnership. He joins a Board which is extremely representative of the partnership with existing Elected Members from across Europe - the UK, the Netherlands, Russia - and now the Middle East.

"It is a huge honour to have been elected and I very much look forward to working alongside other members of the Board in order to serve the wider needs of the partnership across EMEA and Asia," said Abdul Aziz.

Janet Legrand, Senior Partner at DLA Piper, said:
"I'm delighted to welcome Abdul Aziz to this role. His management experience, coupled with his extensive experience of the Middle East will ensure that we continue to represent the entire partnership."

Abdul Aziz, a Kuwaiti national, was appointed to the role of Office Managing Partner for Kuwait in June 2009. He will serve as an Elected Member of the Board for up to three years.
