Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank appoints Malik Sarwar as Global Wealth Management Executive

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), the region's leading Islamic bank, has appointed Malik Sarwar as Global Wealth Management Executive.

Malik will lead the team to offer Islamic Wealth Management services to the bank's high net worth and affluent clients.

Malik has extensive international and US experience in top tier firms like Permal Group (2006 to 2009), Citigroup (1999 to 2006) and Merrill Lynch (1982 to 1999), working in the US, Asia and Middle East.

He has developed wealth management business strategies and successfully implementing financial planning tools, research advice and best-in-class product solutions to help clients achieve their financial goals.

Malik, who spent 17 years with Merrill Lynch, had sales and business management roles at Merrill Lynch, primarily in global wealth management. He was the Sales and Marketing head in Asia Pacific, Business Head of Tokyo and later Bahrain offices and a key leader in Chairman International's office to integrate firms acquired in Japan, Australia, South Africa and Canada.

After joining Citigroup Asia as Head of the investments business in 1999, Malik was responsible for transforming it into the largest wealth management group in the region within four years. In 2003, he moved to Citibank New York to lead the US wealth management team and brought the division back into profitability.

Malik received the banks Investment Business Excellence Award and was also recognized for his role in financial literacy training for microfinance institutions in Asia and for Operation Hope training in Harlem.

Prior to joining ADIB, Malik was the Head of US Business for Permal, the largest independent Fund of Hedge Funds firm in the world.
