Engineer Khalid Moeen Al Hossany, Director of the Department of General Health and the Environment, said "the meeting discussed ways to manage an environmental study, to prepare a water map for Ajman, and to indicate the sources of pollution of the Ajman marine environment." Dr. Zeen Al Abedeen Rizk, Dean of the Environment, Water and Energy Institute at AUST pointed out that AUST has a well established plan to boost scientific research with the aim to pave the way to graduate students and serve experts and researchers.

The meeting further discussed the opportunities for training of government officials, cooperating in the areas of environment, water research studies, and supporting the Master's program in Groundwater Engineering and Management offered by the Institute of Environment, Water and Energy in AUST.

The two parties recommended setting a plan and time line for the execution of a water map no later than 2010, as well as creating working groups which include experts and graduate students specialized in water and environment. This will be followed up by Dr. Zeen Al Abedeen Rizk and Dr. Naeem Abdul Aziz, in charge of Research and Studies, and Engineer Yassir Kayed, specialist in the protection of environment.

This plan will consist of field studies that last from October to December 2009 and from March to May 2010, based on a chemical and bacteriological analysis in the laboratories of the Department of General Health and Environment, while the measuring of the hydraulic transactions of water reservoirs will take place in laboratories at the Institute of Environment, Water and Energy in AUST.

This study will provide an assessment of the traditional and non-traditional sources of water that include surface water, groundwater, desalination and treated wastewater. This will assist the working group to evaluate the effects of the tested water on environment.

At the end of the meeting, Engineer Al Hossany reiterated the importance of the continuity of cooperation between Ajman University of Science and Technology and Ajman Municipality and Planning Department in areas of research, training and human resources development.
