The Theatre Project, headed by Brian and Sami Wilkie, intends to build a modern facility for the use of the diverse communities in Dubai, aimed at inspiring creativity and talent in people of all ages and national backgrounds.
'This project has been designed to fulfill a long-felt need in the Emirates,' commented Brian Wilkie, a Drama enthusiast heading the Dubai Community Theatre, 'At present, cultural groups have to put on their productions in sports halls or auditoria that have been designed for conventions and weddings. These are rarely available for more than a day or two at a time.'
The Dubai Community Theatre will be open year-round, with state-of-the-art flexible sound and lighting systems as well as versatile stage and backstage facilities. It will have around 350 seats downstairs and 150 on the balcony, thus accommodating a total of 500 patrons.
'HP is pleased to be a part of this inspiring community project,' said Gigliola Graziani, Category and Product Manager for HP Middle East's Personal Systems Group. 'I believe that a theatre is just what this city needs to further promote art in a multi-cultural and diverse arena.'
Brian added, 'This project aims to bring people together by offering them a chance to cultivate and perform their talents right here in Dubai. With the help of companies like HP, the Dubai Community Theatre should be complete within two years.'
The Dubai Community Theatre project has already received generous donations from the National Bank of Dubai and various community groups.
