Renaissance Dubai Hotel Chef wins the Best Pastry Chef of the Year

Renaissance Dubai Hotel's Demi Pastry Chef Eranda Kumara was awarded the "Best Pastry Chef of the Year" during the recently concluded Middle East Junior Chef of the Year 2009.
Chef Eranda Kumara bested all the Junior Pastry Chefs from the region for this mastery of live cake decoration, pastry showpiece and 4 plated desserts categories, which were compulsory to win the Title.
He won the judges approval, which was composed of accredited international chefs from the World Association of Chefs Society (WACS), through his creative rendition of showpieces, combination of flavors, new innovations, variety, the intricacy and cleanliness of the creations as well as the delectable taste of the cakes.
He is only 27 years old and has been working in Dubai for over 4 years. He worked intensively under the tutelage of Assistant Pastry Chef Achala Weerasinghe who won the "Best Pastry Chef of the Year" at the Salon Culinaire this February.
The Pastry Chefs creations are available at the Aquarium Lounge and daily at Spice Island's buffet and at the hotel's restaurants, banquets and catering services.
The Renaissance Dubai Hotel culinary team fielded 9 entries and received 7 medals at the recent "Middle East Junior Chef of the Year 2009" competition. The annual competition was organized by the Emirates Culinary Guild in line with the yearly Dubai Shopping Surprises Festival.
A total of 5 Silver and 2 Bronze Medals for various categories were received, ranging from "Four plated Appetizers", "Live Cooking: Beef and Fish", "Four plated Desserts", "Pastry Showpiece" to "Live Cake Decoration".
