- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, December 27 - 2001 at 09:56
- PRESS RELEASE
Emirates, the international airline of the UAE, has pledged Dh20 million (USD5.5 million) in support of its partnership with Dubai 2003, organisers of the world's top annual financial forums in two years' time.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed yesterday by Emirates' Chairman, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, and HE Qassim Sultan, Director General, Dubai Municipality, and Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dubai 2003. Also present was Ibrahim Belselah, General Coordinator, Dubai 2003.
Sheikh Ahmed said: "From the start of the airline in 1985, Emirates has always supported Dubai and the UAE, promoting the country at all the destinations to which we fly. This event presents us with a wonderful chance to show the serious, commercial and positive side of Dubai - as well as underlining our tourism potential.
"We believe Dubai 2003 is a landmark on Dubai's international calendar and we are very proud to be part of it."
By September 2003, Emirates' network of destinations will include Japan in the East and the USA in the West.
Complementing this global expansion, the airline's partnership with Dubai 2003 will extend to flying in a number of the 16,000 to 20,000 dignitaries, official representatives and international media for this premier financial event, the biggest ever to be held, both within the UAE and the Middle East region.
In addition to providing air services, both passenger and cargo, to delegates and media, Emirates will support Dubai 2003 in its marketing and promotional opportunities on the lead-up to the meetings.
Mr Sultan said: "Dubai 2003 was established by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Deputy Ruler and the UAE Minister of Finance & Industry, to ensure the smooth facilitation of these major meetings.
"This partnership with Emirates will ensure our visitors will experience the hospitality of the UAE from the moment they step on their flight to Dubai."
Emirates is committed to promoting Dubai by sponsoring world class events, including the Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horserace, the annual Australian Film Institute Awards and one of Britain's Premier League football teams, Chelsea.
