The membership between the two entities is also an opportunity for Jinan Hotel and Resorts to join the United Nations Global Compact local network (UNGC). EEG hosts the regional network which includes public and private sectors as well as corporate members. The network aims to encourage corporations to exercise the practice of Corporate Social Responsibility and the 10 universally accepted principles.

On this occasion, Jinan CEO, Noel Massoud, said:
"Our campaign to manage sustainable hotels and resorts is ever evolving, and today we have the privilege of becoming part of the network. We hope to do the organization proud through our various efforts towards reducing the environmental burden on our country."

Massoud added, "The EEG has achieved great success in its bid to promote greening initiatives across the country, and we are proud to be associated with the organization. It is our vision to expand our environmental campaign and contribute on a much larger scale, and we are eager to be a part of the UAE's progression towards a sustainable and green future."

Habiba Al Marashi, EEG Chairperson and member of the UNGC, said, "Our movement for a clean and green environment has come a long way since 1991. Since then we have reached out to different sectors, groups and communities. We have introduced environmental concepts and themes, built awareness, increased public will and capacity to be environmentally active, and have tried to institute new and innovative solutions to tackle environmental issues."

Al Marashi added, "We have also successfully set up networks with government bodies, companies, schools, colleges, universities, and with the public. Since the inception of the CSR network in 2004, for example, we have offered a multi-stakeholder platform to our CSR participants. Today the network includes more than 47 members of the public and private sectors."

"Recognizing Jinan's aims and values as similar to our own, we are very proud today to welcome the company onboard. Despite being a very young company, Jinan has an impressive track record, and its efforts to convert the hotels it manages into sustainable, environmentally-friendly places are admirable," she stated.

The EEG is the first environmental NGO in the world to be accredited with the ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. It was established in 1991, and has since grown considerably in members. The group currently has more than 1200 members, including individual and corporate members, federal and local government agencies, universities, colleges and schools, as well as reputed international institutions.
