Sixth Annual Gulf Insurance Forum to strengthen GCC insurance sector

The Coordination Commission for Gulf Insurance & Reinsurance Companies and the Bahrain Insurance Association, will jointly organize an exceptional forum devoted to Developing GCC Markets & Products, it was announced at a press conference today 18th August 2009.

The Forum will take place at the Gulf Hotel Bahrain from November 4 to 5, 2009, and will be held under the auspices of the Central Bank of Bahrain. Eventscom has been appointed the official Event Manager.

Speaking at the press conference were Mr. Ashraf Bseisu, Chairman of the Bahrain Insurance Association; Mr.Waleed Ahmed Mahmood, Treasurer, Bahrain Insurance Association; and Mr. Essam M. Al Ansari, Director, Bahrain Insurance Association.

The prestigious Forum will feature four topics which will be the primary focus of the event proceedings: inter GCC insurance regulatory, web-based insurance applications, developing and retaining insurance human resources, and the image of the insurance industry in the GCC. There will also be ample networking opportunities and a welcome gala dinner for participants.

"Arab insurance markets have remained robust and are showing continued growth despite the economic downturn," remarked Mr. Ashraf Bseisu, Chairman of Bahrain Insurance Association.

"However, regional markets must invest in enhancing local human resources in this sector, and elevating the level of insurance products in order to remain globally competitive. This forum will discuss all these issues, in addition to expanding inter GCC cooperation and enforcing regulatory measures which will ensure continued stability."


Mr. Bseisu added.

The Sixth Annual Gulf Insurance Forum will be attended by professionals from the Insurance, capital market & financial advisory sector, market regulators, governors of central banks & monetary agencies, corporations, industry experts, academics, General Arab Insurance Federation (GAIF) members, Regulatory Authorities/Insurance Commissions of all Arab / GCC Countries.

The Bahrain Insurance Association received its charter in 1993 and became operational as a Society in 1994, under the umbrella of the Ministry of Social Development. Currently, it is in the process of amending its Articles of Association and incorporating under the Central Bank of Bahrain. At present, there are 40 members comprising local insurance companies, foreign insurance companies, reinsurance, brokers and service providers.

The Co-Ordination Commission for Gulf Insurance and Re-insurance Companies was founded in ordinary general assembly held in Abu Dhabi in 1993 with the objective of bolstering and enhancing co-operation and co-ordination in various areas of insurance activities, between the GCC states.
