Adnan Al Bahar, Senior Director, Marketing and Corporate Communications at DSOA, said:
'As members of the society, we owe a responsibility towards the community and the members that make up its foundation. The blood donation drive came as part our corporate social responsibility agenda to encourage employees become change agents through enlisting their active engagement in initiatives that benefit the community.'
'We are pleased to see that the response to our call has been considerable and we would like to thank all of those who volunteered and contributed to the success of the event. We are confident their efforts will make a significant difference to the lives of many less fortunate people, particularly as we move towards a season of sharing and caring,' Adnan added.
Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority's campaign is in line with the UAE Federal Government's initiative to make the country free from Thalassemia by 2012.
Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects a person's ability to produce haemoglobin, resulting in severe anaemia. With one in 12 nationals suffering from the disease, the UAE has stepped up its efforts to eliminate the syndrome with a nation-wide awareness campaign and other related initiatives for educating the public.
