The World Health Organization (WHO) has branded the UAE as having some of the most dangerous roads in the world with 37.1 deaths for every 100, 000 people, twice the global average.

Proper and safe driving practices amongst Emal's employees and contractors are a priority on the company's safety list that goes above and beyond the industry's highest standards. Officers from Al Rahba Police Station will lead the thrice weekly training sessions.

'At Emal we take accountability for our actions and the actions of our employees and the contractors' employees, by ensuring road safety awareness and practice through educational safe driving sessions led by the city's own safety enforcers, Al Rahba police. Emal holds 'safety first, last and always' as one of its main core values, the subject of driving is no exception and a matter taken very seriously within our organization,' said Emal CEO, Duncan Hedditch.

To ensure road safety is understood, adhered to, and practiced, Al Rahba police are instructing training sessions in both Arabic and Hindu.

'There is no better way to learn safety and the rules of the road than by the law enforcers themselves. We lead by example and take pride in helping make the roads a safer place anyway we can,'
said Al Rahba Policeman, Ali Karam Mohamed.

Health Authority Abu Dhabi found that 22.7% of road accidents are caused by irresponsible behaviour and lack of respect for others, followed by 10.9% entering a road before making sure its clear, 9.9% tailgating, 8.8% switching lanes, 8.4% speeding, 2.3% exploding tires, 2.2% carelessness, with 28.4% in the "other" category.

'To avoid contributing to the Nation's reckless driving statistics, Emal is committed to ensuring the highest health and safety standards through construction and operation. Being the UAE's largest industrial diversification project, we see it as our duty to act as leaders and create the precedent for safety initiatives.' said Hedditch.
