The contract states that Haifa Industrial is to provide SEDD with 7,086 48-litre liquid gas cylinders with an overall value of Dhs900,000. All gas cylinders must be delivered before the end of 2009.

Saif Ibrahim of the SEDD's Control and Commercial Protection department, says:

'SEDD is always watching the market through its specialized teams to make sure consumer demand is met. Our work has two bases: first, to make sure that products and services are provided according to international quality standards; second, to make sure that safety standards concerning certain daily-use products, including liquid gas cylinders, are applied.'

'This agreement comes after in-depth studies conducted by the SEDD to evaluate the gas cylinders currently used in the emirate, as these cylinders are to be replaced due to expiration. SEDD recommends that consumers follow safety precautions when dealing with gas cylinders, such as putting the cylinders in well-ventilated places, keeping the cylinders away from heat sources and flammable objects, and making sure that cylinder valves are tightly shut after use,' he added.

SEDD urges consumers to demand purchase invoices when buying gas cylinders from different providers, and to take down the seller information, including the name of the seller, cylinder size and price, date of purchase and manufacturer's logo. Failing to get this information may lead the SEDD to disregard consumer complaints because of a lack of information.

It also hinders SEDD's Control and Commercial Protection department in pursuing violators and preventing violations, which mostly revolve around manipulating gas prices, selling expired gas cylinders, or using gas cylinders that do not meet SEDD's standards.
