As the only transport studies courses in the region, this is a first for the Middle East. The course programmes include work placements at the Department of Transport during the four plus years of study, with guaranteed employment at the DoT after graduation for the highest qualifying students.

Masterminded by the DoT to align with its Surface Transport Master Plan (STMP), part of Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, courses have been developed to reflect the importance of transport and accessibility for the Emirate. The programme is targeting high potential UAE National Bachelor Scholars with scholarships being awarded through Abu Dhabi Education Council.

More than 730 students have already applied for 40 places on the programme with the first intake entering this academic year. Course study and work programmes are designed to build technical skills and leadership qualities in future engineers and managers.

His Excellency Abdulla Rashed Al Otaiba, Chairman of the Department of Transport, said, "This programme is a new and exciting initiative - for the Department of Transport, for the Higher College of Technology, and for those students taking part. It offers the chance to gain invaluable work experience while studying, but more than that, students can actively contribute to the development of the region's most ambitious transport programme and help build the future of Abu Dhabi. We expect great things from our students, and look forward to welcoming them into to the Department of Transport team."

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of HCT, said:
"We are extremely pleased with this collaboration between HCT and DoT as it represents a significant milestone in our continuing quest for building capacity among UAE nationals for a career in the global workforce. We are confident that this unique initiative will be a benchmark for programs in transportation engineering across the region."

The courses have been developed to allow students to build the foundation for further transport studies at foreign educational institutions, and are currently being internationally accredited and affiliated with international universities.
