The Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation Contract was awarded to McDermott in June 2006. Engineering and procurement started immediately. Fabrication started in the first quarter of 2007. The deck was loaded out and seafastened onto the cargo barge in early August. The offshore lifts included removal of two temporary deck, and installation of the topsides, helideck, and flare boom.
The two risers for pipelines 9-7 and 9-8 had previously been successfully stalked onto the jacket.
Robert Flesher, the QG3&4 Chief Operating Officer said,
"We would like to thank the suppliers, contractors, and sub-contractors who were involved in the work for their safe execution and delivery of quality materials and equipment which will eventually lead to ensuring the platforms operate as planned."
Once completed, the QW9 platform will form one of a trio of platforms which will deliver gas to Qatargas Train 6 and Train 7 at Ras Laffan, through 2 new 38-inch diameter pipelines.
