"Lebanon is growing as a commercial centre and its diverse patchwork of Mediterranean coast, rugged mountain peaks and green fertile valleys is increasingly popular with tourists. Therefore, it became a priority for us to provide a map to meet these new demands,"
explained Frank Pauli, Vice President EMEA Map and Content Products, Navteq.
As the name suggests, Intermediate Maps are an important stepping stone, providing coverage across the country and in Lebanon, some basic navigable attributes such as one-way streets - plus key local information including bus stations and taxi stands as POIs. These maps enable system manufacturers and developers to bring products to the market faster while Navteq works on upgrading Lebanon to a fully detailed Navteq map. To accomplish this, mapping analysts trained by Navteq will drive the roads to collect and verify up to 260 attributes which will result in a high quality navigable map.
Having also recently released a map of Jordan, Navteq is fully committed to continuing expansion of its coverage in the Middle East which currently includes UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.
