The three-day 6th International Association of Public Prosecutors, Middle East, Asia and Pacific Regional Conference, slated for November 14 to 16, is expected to attract widespread interest in legal circles across the region and will be attended by IAP members and individual experts from the Middle East and Asia & Pacific (MEAP) region.
The theme of this year's annual event is "Public Prosecution in the 21st Century", and discussions are expected to bring focus on the increasingly crucial role of Information Technology in the prosecution process, highlighting the best practices in investigation techniques, e-service for use by each party in the case and e-case management.
The conference will also discuss risk management in handling prosecution cases with particular emphasis on anti-corruption measures for the prosecution service, protection for parties in the case (accused/victim/ witness), in addition to personal protection of prosecution staff, data protection and security, internally, externally and internationally.
Other topics to be debated by participants include security of prosecution property, documents and evidence, among others.
HE Yousuf Al Mutawa, Senior Advocate General, Public Prosecution - Dubai, said:
"The IAP-MEAP will mark an important milestone in the evolution of public prosecution in Dubai, the UAE. We believe it will help raise public awareness about the role of the public prosecutor within the judicial system, in addition to providing an opportunity for regional legal experts to network with their counterparts from the rest of the world. Dubai Public Prosecution is proud to lead the task of organising the conference for the first time in the Middle East."
The IAP, established in 1995 as a non-governmental, non-political organisation, is a global community of prosecutors committed to setting and raising standards of professional conduct and ethics for prosecutors worldwide.
Its mission is to be a world authority for prosecutors in the conduct of criminal prosecutions and associated matters and to operate as an organisation of international repute and referral.
