Kuwait Minister of Oil endorses second annual Kuwait Science Fair

The Kuwait Science Fair, the largest science competition in Kuwait run by ExxonMobil Kuwait and Kuwait Energy, announced they have received an official endorsement from His Excellency Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Minister of Oil, Minister of Information, and Chairman of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.

Now in its second run, the Kuwait Science Fair is a nation-wide science competition encompassing over 150 high-schools.

It was founded by ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Kuwait Limited and Kuwait Energy Company as part of their shared commitment to generate student interest and excitement in math and science and help inspire the scientists and innovators of tomorrow.

The competition, which remains to be managed by both companies, kicks-off on September 28, starting with school visits and includes student orientation workshops during the course of the project preparation period, which starts from September 2009 till March 2010.

The finals will take place in March in an exciting event that includes a special attendance by the Minister.

HE Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah stressed on the importance of investing in inspiring students to pursue careers in math and science, citing the important role played by companies, organizations and the public sector.

He said, "The youth of today are the citizens of tomorrow, which is why we must encourage young minds to challenge themselves towards knowledge, not only on the local front, but also on an international level. Its is our responsibility to help them draw their way to professional success, the potential of young people to develop solutions for tomorrow's challenges will improve the lives of millions of people around the world. The Kuwait Science Fair enables our youth in Kuwait to surpass their abilities in math and science; this is why I am glad to support students and everyone that contributed in this promising initiative for the second year in a row."

KSF Managing Director Ms. Aseel Al-Turkait said, "We are proud to have His Excellency's endorsement for the second year in a row. The special attention given to the competition by His Excellency is an incredible motivator for us and our mission to engage students into the fields of math and science. We thank the Minister for his continuous support."

To qualify, students must be enrolled in a local high school, and submit all forms requested, which will be available on the competition's website in September.
