In this regard, the new students were introduced to Moodle, a web-based Virtual Learning Environment adopted by Alhosn to create effective online learning sites. The freshmen were also briefed on the university's recently updated website and online portal.
The portal enables students to log on and check their grades, revise their study plan, adjust courses based on their schedules and view academic updates. The orientation ended with discussions on online registration, campus emailing, and printing and photocopying guidelines.
Ms Ghada Qabha, Director of Student Affairs, Alhosn University, asid:
"Alhosn implemented several improvements to its academic services and programs over the summer to ensure a more productive and enjoyable academic year for its students. We want our youth to be actively involved in transforming the UAE into a knowledge-based society and so we expose them to high-quality education based on international standards. Our freshmen are just beginning to embark on the road to successful careers and perhaps even key national leadership roles, so it is important for Alhosn to guide them towards the right direction as soon as they enter our institution."
Founded in 2005, Alhosn University oversees 11 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It recently added four new Master and Certificate programs in Buildings Engineering and Engineering Management to enhance its engineering and technical offerings. The University's City Campus includes the Men's Campus, the Women's Campus, Library Building, Lectures Building and the Engineering Labs Building, all located at the center of Abu Dhabi. Planning is currently underway on the construction of a world-class main campus.
Alhosn University also supports community and social growth by accepting special needs students; providing scholarships; encouraging more women to join the engineering fields; and opening its programs to students of all nationalities.
