The fashion show marked the spectacular climax to the Oriental Red Carpet Emerging Designer Contest 2009 when the three finalists - Fatima Al Hashimi, Athija Al Mazroui and Mariam Al Mazrou - debuted their collections to the media and a key local niche clientele for the first time.

The event was supported by Cadillac as Diamond Sponsor along with Sony Ericsson as Platinum Sponsor and Barclays Wealth as Gold Sponsor of this event.

Muna Bin Kalli, Executive Director of Dubai Ladies Club, commented:

"We are pleased to host the Oriental Red Carpet Fashion Show for a second consecutive year. Our core objective in hosting and organizing such a major event is to encourage young Emirati female entrepreneurs and designers and help them achieve their career objectives. This year, we have raised the bar for the event yet again with a more elaborate event programme and set up in order to establish this evening as the highlight fashion event in Dubai's Ramadan calendar. Every year, we will aim to bring forth the works and talent of new and promising Emirati young designers."

"Moreover, I am proud to announce that the three Emirati designers will have the unique opportunity to travel to the fashion capital of the world - Paris. Through this initiative we aim to give the young Emirati designers valuable exposure to learn about the international fashion scene and use that new found knowledge to expand their businesses in the UAE, which is a promise we take on our shoulders as a support to the young and dynamic local entrepreneurs," she added.

The event began at 21.30 when the designers made their glamorous Red Carpet entry in chauffer-driven Cadillac 2010 CTS cars and emerged in front of awaiting media and guests. Their arrival set the mood for the rest of the night.

"At the pinnacle of UAE female fashion design, the three winning designers all share traits that are synonymous with Cadillac - style, success and leadership. The Cadillac CTS, in which the models and designers arrived at the event has won numerous design awards and has helped take the Cadillac brand to the next level, much like how the winning designers tonight have raised the bar for UAE fashion design and further raised international awareness of the outstanding quality of local talent," said Adib Takieddine, Marketing Manager for Cadillac in the Middle East.

First up was Mariam Al Mazrou with a cheerful & colourful Ready-To-Wear collection that beautifully combined the charm of the East with the West. Next to present was Fatima Al Hashimi who created a stunning collection of jewel-toned Jalabiyas inspired by her Emirati background and heritage. The third and final collection was Abayas by Athija Al Mazroui. Her creations reflected her characteristic use of billowing shapes enhanced with the use of silk and intricate designs in abayas.

Cadillac has also generously awarded each winner the unique chance to test drive the Cadillac 2010 CTS - which combines power and performance in a luxury sedan - for one month.

The three Emirati winners have also won a rare opportunity to travel to Paris for an exclusive tour organized by Dubai Ladies Club. The agenda will include a private visit to Louis Vuitton's historical workshop, where the designers will witness craftsmen hand-making Louis Vuitton luxury leather and travel goods, followed by a trip to the Maison De Champs-Elysee to preview Louis Vuitton's latest collection. Last but not the least, the journey will conclude at Louis Vuitton's Espace Culturelle. The trip will take place in early October 2009.

About Oriental Red Carpet Ramadan 2009:
The Oriental Red Carpet Fashion Show is an annual fashion design contest for emerging Emirati designers; organised by Dubai Ladies Club, a subsidiary of Dubai Women Establishment. Following the success of its inaugural launch in 2008, the competition returned once again as a pioneering campaign aimed at promoting young emerging designers and advancing their careers through extensive media exposure and introductions to key local & international clientele.

This year, aspiring designers were invited to rise to the challenge of conceiving 'The Next Big Trend' in Khaleeji fashion. The competition was divided into three categories - Abayas, Jalabiyas and Ready-to-Wear. At a private Judging Ceremony held earlier this month, a Fashion Jury convened at Dubai Ladies Club where 10 finalists were given a chance to show their designs and sketches to the panel. Each contestant spent fifteen minutes with the panel to discuss her designs, background and future plans. The judges made their decision based on creativity, marketability, workmanship, fabric suitability and overall appeal.

This year's selection committee included Ms Mirvat Ghanem, Editor of L'Officiel Middle East magazine, Mr Gonzague Duriez, Managing Director of Arabesque shailas and abayas, Ms Jo Wright, Personal Stylist for Boutique 1 and Ms Mai Sulaiman, Communications Director of Dubai Ladies Club.

The Oriental Red Carpet Fashion Show has been a launch pad for a number of distinguished local fashion designers such as Reem Beljafla, Fatima Al Qassimi, Fatima Al Tunaiji and Jamila Al Mansoor who have gone on to accomplish even greater things.

Focussing on Emirati women's overall development, Dubai Ladies Club has consistently promoted Emirati talents through a number of educational and career-oriented professional programmes to open avenues for women to channelize their strengths and contribute effectively to the social and economic progress of the UAE.
