- PRESS RELEASE
The technical committee of the Greater Amman Municipality continues reviewing the proposals presented by the interested companies in building the new Amman abattoir project.
Earlier this year, GAM has invited all the local and international companies and alliances to present their interest in executing the project based on DBOT (Design-Build-Operate-Transfer) principle. A number of companies have expressed interest in the project.
The technical committee recently conducted a preliminary assessment for the interested companies, and ordered seven of the world's major companies and alliances to present the technical and financial documents prior to their partaking in the tender.
GAM's informed sources stressed that the Municipality didn't negotiate any of the interested companies yet.
The new abattoir will take place on an area of 107 dunums, at Al-Madouna region, in East Amman. Sources said that it will witness increasing demand over the coming 20 years, given that it will serve the cities of Amman and Zarqa.
Once built, the abattoir will consist of a water treatment station, a treatment unit of organic waste to produce fodders, a slaughterhouse for white and red meats, and a bio-gas production plant to generate electricity from solid waste.
The new abattoir is open for 16 hours a day, divided into two shifts in the morning and evening. Its location was carefully chosen to meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Environment, as well as other technical prerequisites needed for the project and set earlier by the Amman Master Plan which defines the Capital's future prospects in the next 25 years.
Recently, GAM organized a seminar with the Ministry of Environment to discuss the main issues that will be studies to assess the environmental and social effects of the new Amman abattoir on the community.
