In addition, UOWD is talking to RTA to make Dubai Metro tickets available at its UniShop, in order to encourage students to use the metro.

"As a socially responsible university committed to supporting the environmentally-friendly initiatives of the Government of Dubai, we have decided to actively promote public transport among our students. Our campaign is aimed at encouraging students to switch from cars and other modes of road transport to the Dubai Metro."

said Professor Rob Whelan, President, UOWD.

"Our students, especially those coming from Sharjah and Ajman, have to travel for long hours by road to reach the university every day. We believe that the Metro will provide a fast and comfortable alternative mode of transport for these students. In due course, we expect the Metro to be the preferred mode of transport for the majority of our students."

The Dubai Internet City station, the nearest metro station to Knowledge Village, is not among the stations that will open on September 9. Until it opens, UOWD plans to run shuttle services to the nearest stations that are operational.
