In March 2009, a grant from Emal enabled AUS to host an expanded programme of engineering debate at the International Symposium on Mechatronics and Applications.
Yousuf Bastaki spoke passionately about the engineering field, encouraging the job seekers in the audience to join an industry that is the primary focus of Abu Dhabi's economic diversification strategy.
"Construction work at Emal is on track, on budget and over 60% complete. This venture should be of great interest for any graduate who wants to be a part of the largest diversification project being undertaken in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The skills you will learn, the challenges you will face and the opportunities you will be presented with will be unlike anything your peers will experience in the engineering field,"said Bastaki during his speech.
The speech was part of an ongoing series of seminars being hosted by AUS. The programme is designed to bring together business leaders, job seekers and educators in a relaxed format.
"The Alumni Association has created networking events, such as this Iftar, to enable you to join together and re-establish friendships and make new acquaintances to extend your professional webs," said AUS Chancellor Dr. Peter Heath in his address to the students.
"AUS will continue its support for you as you proceed forward in your careers and contribute your many talents to those of society around us. As you take on increasingly more complex professional challenges, your achievements will enhance the reputation of the university," he added.
The meeting was also attended by AUS Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Thomas Hochstettler; Vice Chancellor for Development and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Nada Mourtada-Sabbah; as well as several other senior university officials.
