Beirut airport passengers up 25%

Lebanon's Rafiq Hariri Beirut International Airport has reported a 25% increase in overall passenger traffic to 3.3 million passengers during the first eight months of 2009, according to the Arab Air Carriers Organisation. Total volume of the shipped cargo via the airport had amounted to 47,221 tons in the first eight months of 2009, an increase of 9.6% compared with the same period last year, and the total number of the operated flights via the airport amounted to 37,114 flights with an increase of 29%, the report has said. The UAE was the largest destination for departing and arriving passengers via the Beirut airport with 19.1% of the total. KSA was second (10.7%), followed by France (10%), Kuwait (8.3%), and Egypt (6%).
