'This fair promotes contact between higher education and employers, with students as the basic medium of exchange. It provides students with opportunities to explore careers and to acquire information for their own career planning, both matters of great general importance,' said Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT).
This edition of the show that is the biggest yet, has attracted participation from 117 private, semi-government and government institutions keen to tap in and draw from a highly skilled and trained pool of National talent that is fast emerging. The large-scale presence of multinationals, banks, IT and media sector companies indicates the increasing importance of Careers in filling in the employee-employer gap.
'Careers provides employers with a stage to fill in their vacancies and job seekers on the other hand can find a one-stop shop to meet employers,' said DWTC Director General, Mubarak bin Fahad.
He noted that the encouraging response is largely due to the cooperation between the DWTC and HCT, TANMIA and Zayed University.
'Careers is growing in strength as an event that provides a better resource for job seekers as well as employers and the quality of the candidates that come to this fair has been improving making the event rewarding for both groups,' Mr. bin Fahad observed.
Thirty eight per cent of the exhibitors signed up are from the private sector. A further 17 per cent are from banks, 10 per cent from semi-government bodies, with government exhibitors making up the rest of the number. The increase in numbers is indicative of the increasingly important profile of Careers 2003 on the local employment and careers market.
The fair, which is a big draw for national professionals and job-seekers, has also attracted increasing interest among students from private and government universities and institutions, keen to explore existing and developing career prospects.
Careers UAE 2003 is organized in conjunction with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), The National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority (TANMIA) and Zayed University, will run till April 23.
