Corodex empowers world's largest aluminum plant with vacuum sewerage system

Dubai based Corodex Electromechanic, a part of Concorde-Corodex group (CCG) has won the contract to construct a vacuum sewerage system for the world's largest aluminum plant in Qatar.

On completion, Qatalum's smelter will be the largest aluminum plant ever constructed in a single phase.

The plant is located at Mesaieed in Qatar, some 40 kilometers from the capital Doha.

The project involves design, supply, and supervision of installation of Vacuum Sewerage System, supplied by Roediger Vacuum Gmbh. The vacuum sewerage network, when completed, will consist of approximately 63 Z75 vacuum chambers, all connected with one central vacuum station with 5Km long vacuum sewer line.

"This project follows the highest construction standards set by Qatalum. We have used our special built vacuum chambers; Z75 for heavy traffic load. The flexibility of the system makes it possible to integrate it with other underground utilities and construct them simultaneously, saving time and cost for all,"

said Mohanned Awad, Director, Business Development, Concorde-Corodex Group.

The main advantage of this system and the reason for it being preferred by the client is that it is environment friendly and has no odors and no exfiltration or infiltration of wastewater into the surrounding area. And it can be built very fast compared to traditional gravity sewerage system which would have taken twice as long and cost more.

Corodex has installed the similar systems on Palm Jumeirah and Palm Deira in Dubai, for Al Raha Gardens in Abu Dhabi and other locations in Middle East.

"We have done far more projects than anyone in the middle east when it comes to vacuum sewerage, which makes us the leader in the field," Added Awad.

Vacuum sewerage systems are wastewater collection systems. An air stream generated by differential air pressure drives the wastewater toward a vacuum station where the vacuum is generated; the wastewater is collected, and then pumped to a wastewater treatment facility.

The system is made up of reliable & durable components that are easy to use and service, with the self cleaning mechanism. Its unique engineering design makes it most suitable for low density population areas, rocky terrains, and coastal development.
