Al Salam Street Projects celebrate 3m hours of workplace safety milestone

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, September 13 - 2009 at 10:48
  • PRESS RELEASE

Al Salam Street Projects completed a total of 3m working hours without incurring any recordable or days-away-from-work injuries among 1,500 staff and workers since the beginning of May 2008.

This achievement is a result of Abu Dhabi Municipality's (ADM) strict adherence to the highest international standards of safety and security in the development areas. Added to this, the significant milestone represents ADM's collaborative efforts with Parsons International, the consulting company for Al Salam Street Projects; Louis Berger International, project managers; and Samsung Saif Bin Darwish, contractor for the Tourist Club and Salam Street tunnel phase, which is one of the most important infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi.

Eng. Abdulla Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Municipal Assets and Infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Municipality, said:

"We are proud of this achievement especially in a project that is as huge as Al Salam Street Projects that has employees working in shifts 24 hours a day. All the companies involved have a strong culture of promoting safe workplace practices and behaviors with a 'zero-incidents' goal for all work environments. Celebrating this achievement is a reward we all share and is truly what discipline and teamwork are all about."

Eng. Eisa Mubarak Al Mazrouie, Acting Director of Internal Roads and Infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Municipality, said "Since the beginning, we have laid out a specific and comprehensive system to be strictly followed on a daily basis. Project workers are also kept informed and updated constantly on the importance of following the established security and safety standards under the guidance of Abu Dhabi Municipality."

He added: "We are training to continue this approach until the completion of the project especially in the next stage, which is building the 3.6 kilometer Al Salam tunnel. Work will continue on a 24-hour basis, including holidays, to show our commitment to the project and to deliver on our promised completion date."

The celebration coincided with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. All project teams have re-affirmed their commitment to view safety as a top priority during this busy time.

ADM continues to collaborate with various government agencies to effectively solve traffic problems and ensure the comfort of Abu Dhabi motorists, pedestrians and residents until the road infrastructure developments are done.

Al Salam Street Projects are in line with Plan Abu Dhabi 2030—the long-term vision committed to fostering the economic and social development of the capital. The initiative further establishes Abu Dhabi's position as a truly modern metropolis on par with the best in the world. Al Salam Street Projects are a result of the cooperation between ADM, Urban Planning Council, Department of Transport and the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police.
