The certification is TCO Development's new quality certification and environmental labelling for monitors. The Swedish labelling standard is currently used by manufacturers worldwide.

TCO'03 Displays is the fourth standard developed by TCO Development for displays and is a revised version of TCO'99, which continues to be the single most used standard. Samsung now has few of its series of displays that are labelled in accordance with the new quality standard.

"Several of Samsung's models fulfil the requirements for the new environmental and quality labelling. With TCO'03 Displays, the requirements for user-friendliness, picture quality as well as environmental characteristics, among other things, have been made more stringent," says Jan Rudling, Managing Director of TCO Development.

Samsung will now offer an entire series of computer displays bearing the new TCO'03 Displays label. The labelling standard applies to TFT-LCD and CRT displays which means that more displays in a total of six groups have been certified: TFT-LCD - 15, 17, 19 and 21 inch and CRT - 17 and 19 inch. The following models, among others, have also been certified: SyncMaster 172T, 153S, 193T and 213T.

About half of all displays manufactured in the world today are TCO labelled. The new labelling standard was developed partly to meet the requirements for new quality certification for flat panel displays. Recently, the development of the TFT-LCD displays has accelerated.

Samsung is the largest player in the TFT-LCD monitor market in the Middle East and in the world. The new displays are the result of Samsung's intensive focus on user-friendliness, maximum performance and design. "The TCO label is a stamp of quality for Samsung. It confirms our commitment to meet stringent quality stipulations to benefit end-users. Models with TCO'03 certification will be made available to the corporate market in the Middle East that demands stringent quality in the products they purchase,"said Mr. K.S.Vasudevan, Senior Manager, Digital Information Technology Division, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

"Although not everyone is aware of the significance of the label, many users know that it stands for quality. The most recent certification is the toughest to date," he added.

Several of Samsung's models meet stringent requirements with respect to contrast, brightness, colour reproduction and picture stability that are necessary in order to qualify for the new labelling. Furthermore, the certified displays also meet the height, rotation and tilt adjustment requirements within TCO'03 Displays.

Samsung's new flat panel displays are distinguished by sound ergonomics and flexibility. Connection cables are now barely visible because they are hidden at the back of the display stand. The new displays combine stylish, elegant design with the highest standards of performance and flexibility.
