Standard Chartered has announced that it will take up the main sponsorship of Liverpool Football Club from July 2010 until the end of the 2013-2014 season. Standard Chartered has focused its expansion plans on organic growth, capitalising on raising brand awareness rather than through acquisitions. Nelson told reporters that Liverpool had 87,000 hours of coverage in 2008, which the group plans to capitalise on with a marketing campaign due to begin in mid 2010.

Speaking on the region, Nelson predicted that the UAE was likely to see positive growth of 0.5%, with Abu Dhabi performing strongly.

Nelson added that Dubai would see some short term pain, but falling prices would make it better placed in terms of global competitiveness in the future.
