Al Corniche Hospital is owned and operated by SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company which is responsible for all the curative activities of the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The hospital is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International.

An assistant professor of gynecology and obstetrics, and director of the international programs section and of clinical colposcopy in gynecology and obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland (USA), Lee also served as medical director and consultant for JHI's Collaborative Project in Obstetrics and Gynecology in China. In her physician leader role, she managed the programmatic aspects of the project in hospitals across China. She helped to establish facilities and training programs for health care providers in family-centered maternity care as well as to introduce the concept of quality control and process improvement in the delivery of care.

Dr. Lee received her MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business, for which she graduated first in her class. Her previous international medical work has taken her to India, Honduras, China, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Taiwan, Thailand and the UAE. She has received numerous awards and distinctions, including a listing in the "Best Doctors in America" 2007-2008 database.

"Dr. Lee brings broad international experience in clinical care, education and health care management. Having a Johns Hopkins faculty member in this lead medical role on the management team will help bring Johns Hopkins' clinical care expertise and best practices to Al Corniche. This is a significant step forward in our mission to set and raise the standard of women's and newborns' health care in the region."

says Ronald Lavater, chief executive officer of Al Corniche Hospital.

"We are thrilled to have someone of Dr. Lee's caliber in the SEHA Healthsystem", said Clyde Eder, Chief Operating Officer for SEHA. "Corniche Hospital is recognized for its excellence in maternity care. Dr. Lee's credentials not only support that continued excellence, she shares our longer term vision for the hospital and SEHA's mission for an integrated healthcare delivery model in this market."

Lee's appointment is part of the five-year hospital management agreement between JHI and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), the hospital owner and operator. A Joint Commission International-accredited health care facility, Al Corniche is the largest maternity hospital in the UAE. Al Corniche Hospital provides facilities for more than 10,000 births and 216,000 outpatient visits a year.

Under the management agreement signed between SEHA and Johns Hopkins Medicine International in September 2008, a Johns Hopkins management team has day-to-day oversight of the 235-bed Al Corniche Hospital. Knowledge transfer is one of the significant benefits of the SEHA/Johns Hopkins partnership.

Al Corniche is one of the three hospitals in the UAE under management by the Baltimore, M.D.,-based JHI. Tawam Hospital, a 477-bed tertiary care facility in Al Ain, and Al Rahba Hospital, a 135-bed community facility just outside Abu Dhabi City, also are managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International and are accredited by Joint Commission International.
