SAP driving Qatar's energy sector

Qatar is the world's second largest producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) after Russia, according to World Bank statistics, and its 1.5 million residents enjoy one of the world's highest per capita incomes at more than $65,000 per annum; however, the Qatari Government's strategy is to utilize its assets to generate more wealth by diversifying the economic base of the country beyond hydrocarbons.

"SAP is investing in Qatar because we believe that it holds enormous economic promise even in the immediate term, largely because of its increasingly important role in the global energy sector," said McDermott, whose company employs more than 48,500 employees worldwide to service more than 89,000 customers of all sizes, in all industries and across 120 countries.

"Beyond the energy sector where SAP has a long and rich history supporting the growth and global expansion of the world's biggest companies in the oil and gas sector, we believe that SAP is a key enabler of innovation in all sectors, innovation that is crucial to sustained economic growth and the creation of wealth," added McDermott.

SAP has already created an extensive regional ecosystem of partners to serve the company's growing customer base in the rapidly flourishing Gulf state of Qatar.

McDermott continued to say, "Successful public and private organizations that are able to rapidly innovate, share many common characteristics. Firstly, they consolidate their IT to reduce cost and unnecessary duplication. Secondly, they standardize on software and systems. Thirdly, they build their business processes on platforms that allow for interoperability and information sharing along their value networks."

In Qatar, SAP solutions support enterprise size customers and countless small businesses and midsize companies.

"SAP's business strategy is industry-focused. The intense collaboration with our customers helps SAP to provide the most relevant solutions and the ability to leverage our industry expertise throughout the customer's specific value chain. We provide end-to-end solutions that enable our customers to overcome the specific challenges of their industry, leverage unique competitive advantages, and deliver sustainable business outcomes," concluded McDermott.
