Medsol provides pathology testing services via a network of branded laboratories, (including independent and hospital laboratories) across Mena.

The Welcare Pathology Hospital Laboratory (part of the Medsol group of laboratories), is the first hospital laboratory in Dubai to be awarded the ISO 15189:2007 accreditation certificate under the Laboratory Accreditation Programme of Dubai Accreditation Department.

To coincide with this achievement, Medsol's Dubai Medical Laboratory has also received a double acknowledgement, being awarded both the ISO 15189:2007 and JCI accreditation certificates in August this year.

Mr Amitava Ghosal, Chairman of Gulf Healthcare International (GHI), and representing shareholder interests of Global Capital Management, said:
"We are very pleased that Medsol has achieved this accreditation, which firmly places these labs at the forefront of pathological testing in the region. Our intention has been to bring in the best international practices in the diagnostic sector to this region and this is a step forward in that direction."

The ISO 15189:2007 standards test requirements for competence and quality, specific to medical laboratories. With this achievement, Medsol labs are recognised locally and internationally for their testing, qualifications and quality under the accreditation's standards. The scope of accreditation includes 148 tests for Welcare Hospital Pathology Laboratory and 151 tests for Dubai Medical Laboratory in the disciplines of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Haematology.

Dubai Accreditation Department is the first in the Gulf region to have passed and cleared International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to become a full member of ILAC (ILAC MRA Signatory) for testing and calibration laboratories accreditation. ILAC is the peak international authority on laboratory accreditation, with a membership consisting of accreditation bodies and affiliated organisations from 51 different countries. Over 65 laboratory accreditation bodies have signed a multi-lateral recognition agreement, based on mutual evaluation and acceptance of each other's accreditation systems - giving international recognition to accredited laboratories.

The Joint Commission International (JCI) is the world leading accreditation agency for hospitals, ambulatory care facilities, clinical laboratories, care continuum services, medical transport organizations, and primary care services, as well as certification for disease or condition specific care. The international accreditation standards for clinical laboratories where formulated with extensive international input, and reflect, in content and organization, the most comprehensive standards for quality clinical laboratory services. They support a complete, accurate and objective assessment of laboratory processes and management practices. In meeting them the laboratory demonstrates its efficiency and accuracy in patient testing.

Dr. Sunil Tadepalli, Vice President, Lab Operations, said, "Medsol has always been committed to pioneering the highest standards of healthcare in the Mena region and we are pleased to receive formal acknowledgement with ISO and JCI recognition. International accreditation programmes are a must for all healthcare providers to ensure the best quality of service for industry partners and patients. It is our intention to achieve full accreditation across the network before the end of the year."
