- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, September 22 - 2009 at 11:58
- PRESS RELEASE
Western Digital, one of the storage industry's pioneers and long-time leaders, has revamped and funded the IT department at SNF (Special Need Families) Children Development Centre with a networking system and new computers.
The Centre is a dedicated facility for young adults with special needs who would like to enhance their lives by contributing to the community in their own special way. Qualified and certified staff members assist in escalating integration in mainstream society by imparting training specific to every individual's potential and vocational needs.
Western Digital provided the centre with PCs powered by WD hard drives, an entire networking setup of the unit, wireless setup, software installation for all new and existing computers, as well as cabling setup and external storage devices.
This room caters to the centre's special needs young adults to aid them in learning and using computers for various academic and learning purposes. The children are also encouraged to use computers so that they can be integrated into mainstream institutes or go out and work independently. Eventually, they can learn typing skills, as well as use programs such as Microsoft Power-Point to prepare slide presentations, thus finding occupations such as data entry operators ,web designers, etc.
"Western Digital is proud to be taking such an active role in supporting the Centre and is committed to supporting students and in assisting them in their vocational studies. As pioneers and established leaders in storage, we are committed to increasing computer literacy amongst youth, making them more interactive. The children can enjoy using these tools for communication, and can be used to teach them simple academic programs for English and functional Mathematics, " added Khwaja Saifuddin, Sales Director, Western Digital, Middle East & Africa.
"Western Digital's contributions have been invaluable in helping us build our Information Technology centre to provide our young adults with special needs the opportunity to develop their skills," added Ms. Safia Bari, Director, SNF Children Development Centre.
