Mac OS X Snow Leopard released by Apple on 28 August 2009 became available in the Middle East during the first week of September.

This latest version, which is an upgrade for current Leopard users, primarily focuses on improved security, reliability and speed, although many other refinements, which once gotten used to become hard to live without, are also there.

Marketed as a "Better Leopard," the system is set to have polished and improved existing applications. However, one new functional application is introduced: built-in Microsoft Exchange support which allows connection to Microsoft Exchange 2007 servers for access through mail, Address Book and iCal.

The process is quick and simple: all of emails, contacts, calendar items and things-to-do lists integrate into appropriate Snow Leopard applications within seconds after entering an email address and password.

For business users who need to connect to exchange servers this key new feature is the reason to upgrade all by itself.

Along with refinements in Quick Time, Safari, Finder, Dock among others, Snow Leopard is a big time saver as it is now 64-bit, meaning that applications can address the massive amounts of RAM and all the tasks go much faster.

However, all the applications will still run in 32-bit mode on machines with 32-bit processors.

The installation will not take more than 30 minutes. To ensure its completeness and security Snow Leopard features safeguards which let a user pick up and continue installing if computer shuts off during the process. One of the things no one usually expects from upgrades is gain of extra hard disk space. Surprisingly, upon installing Snow Leopard one might gain up to 20 GB of storage savings, although Apple officially promises 7 GB.

Snow Leopard is selling beyond the expectations of its own developers, who predicted about 5 million copies to be sold by the end of September. According to preliminary figures released by market research firm NPD Group, the software has already gone past 5 million copies sold during the first two weeks of being available in the market.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is now available in Pro Technology showrooms in Dubai Media City and Sheikh Zayed Road. The Family Pack and Box Set: Mac OS X 10.6 SL Retail Family Pack, Mac Box Set Retail (10.6), and Mac Box Set Family Pack (10.6) are likewise offered. These will be a prominent display at the stand during Gitex Technology Week 2009, to be highlighted with live demos and hands on training on the system will be provided by Pro Technology's Mac professionals.
